I don’t know what is going on.
Ever since I moved out of school, out of my home, I have started watching tv. TV shows that I never watched in college because I “had a life”. This year I was glued to the TV every sunday afternoon watching football, and now it’s every tuesday watching American Idol. I watched these extensively in the past, but now it’s like i’m obsessed.
On this season of American Idol, they keep saying it’s the most talented season they’ve ever had..I strongly disagree (remember season 5 anyone?) but I do like these competetors. Since everyone likes lists, I will rank them in the order I think they should finish counting down from ten.
10. Kristy Lee Cook
9. Ramiele Blahblahby
8. Chikeze
7. Jason Castro
6. Syesha Mercado
5. Michael Johns
4. David Archuleta (I just don’t like this guy’s style. I really don’t have a reason though.)

Now we all know that how we want contestants to finish, or how we think they should finish is rarely how it ever happens. If the crowd reactions were an indication, the final would match Jason Castro versus David Archuleta. American Idol is basically a popularity contest. The judges do a good job of getting us down to talented singers, but at this point, it’s just popularity. Look at the past 2-3 people, they were people who didn’t have as big of a fan base. The goal of this competition is not to be the best singer week in and week out, but rather to be no lower than above the least popular person of the week. Seriously, how else do you explain season 5, Taylor Hicks? Come on, seriously?
How did he beat out (in my opinion), the most talented contestant to ever grace the stage of American Idol. (Yes even ahead of Kelly Clarkson).

Taylor Hicks = Best AI Winner Ever to grace their stage. Period. No comparison. The only blues and soul singer to blow away the competition. He won because he was the best entertainer and singer that year. It showed in the enormous vote tally he got week after week. Move on, dude. This was 2 years ago.
oh man, so many opinions….i’ll start here: i did not like david cook AT ALL when the show first started…his music has now grown on me to the point that after last night i really think he is amazing…i still think he is arrogant and annoying but i’m sure they all are…….i really don’t think you are giving david archuleta enough credit, dude, the kid can sing…he’s got SERIOUS talent……….jason castro=not incredibly talented, but i love hearing him sing stuff…he just has a nice voice………brooke white does some interesting stuff, but she can really have stinker weeks too………i’m not terribly impressed with carly…….ramiele is just whatever……chikeze and syesha are both really boring…every song is the same as you would expect to hear……and finally michael johns, he’s alright, i like him but he doesn’t rock my world…..

Ugh, no more Daughtry’s! One is bad enough. David Cook is a huge d-bag, and I find it hard to believe people actually like listening to his voice. Its like Daughtry mixed with Nickelback (but hey, like the judges say, i guess thats how rock should be…) Kelly and Katharine are the best singers to ever come out of AI. Taylor Hicks? Please, people didn’t like his voice, they liked his persona on stage. He had charisma, but no lasting power (ever heard his album? cause i haven’t)
This is such a weird/bad season. I think the judges know it too, cause they keep saying its the most talented season yet, and its clearly not. Anyways, here are my top ten of this season with commentary (which I think is the worst yet)
10. David Cook – can’t stand this guy, but he is this year’s daughtry. terrible voice, extremely arrogant, thinks screaming = rock singer. he’ll probably win, and i’ll die.
10. Kristy Lee Cook – flat out bad. no star quality, and a very weak voice. the judges made a huge mistake by letting her through, but the american public has made a worse mistake by continually keeping her in.
10. Ramiele – thinks she’s a lot better than she is. she is not a power singer, so she should stop trying. her cuteness has got her this far, but she’ll be gone soon.
9. Syesha Mercado – i keep expecting to hear a different voice come from her each time she sings, but she’s weak too. she wont last much longer either.
9. David Archuleta – clearly the favorite to win this year, but i dont get this guy at all. i dont even think his voice is that great, and he’s very inconsistent. hopefully you can hear what i’m saying through the all the screaming teenage girls….bleh.
8. Brooke White – not good. probably the most inconsistent girl. she always sings like she’s nervous, and is never on key. again, this is a singing competition, not a piano playing competition. she needs to up her game.
8. Carly Smithson – i dont believe this girl at all. she might have the best vocals on the female side, but i’m not sold. i think she’s fake, and inconsistent as well.
7. Jason Castro – the poor man’s david archuleta. girls love this guy, but again, going with this year’s theme of inconsistency, he falls right in. he does have a chance at winning though, which is odd, cause he’s not a very good singer.
6. Michael Johns – i want this guy to be better, he seems like a cool guy, but again he’s inconsistent. as long as the two davids and jason are in the competition, michael johns will be in trouble.
1.Chikeze – the best male vocals of the bunch. when he’s on, he is dead on, and the tone of his voice is pure and solid. but chikezie is probably more inconsistent than all the other guy’s combined. i think he’s this year’s sleeper, but he wont win.

What is he doing now? Not in a graveyard for sure – he is working on a 2nd CD, he is receiving awards, he is doing LOTS of charity gigs because he is a giving person and has supported several charities for years, he is living his dream. Good Luck to Taylor – he is one great guy! His season will never be topped! They keep saying this is the best season ever…WHATEVER!
I agree with your list for the most part. Although you know that I believe that the total package should be considered, not only the voice. My list:
10. Kristy Lee – No other reason that because I hate country music.
9. Ramiele – Great voice but awkward, immature personality.
8. David A. – Great voice, great kid, no star potential.
7. Syesha – Like her personally, great smile. Forgettable.
6. Chikeze – Nice guy. Would do good in his own niche.
5. Brooke – Ditto
4. Jason – Ditto
3. Michael – An early favorite. Potential for total package. I was often frustrated with him for not being as good I think he’s capable of.
2. Carly – Love the voice, star potential. If she could just sing without that angry look on her face. I don’t think she’s really angry just looks like it when she sings.
1. David C. – Total(ish) package. Good voice, good style, very comfortable on stage, good performer. Has the potential of actually selling records. Don’t care for his personality much, (ok not at all). But can see having a good shot at a career in the industry.
So did we agree? Kinda/sorta but the one thing we definitely agree on…Chris Daughtry! Best thing to EVER come of idol. Awesome voice, incredible performer, all around great guy. I wish him much success, he deserves it. Thanks for the video, AI has never have another contestant worthy of my vote for 100% total package.
